Pillow Form Tutorial

I've been searching for some fun and unique pillows for my bedroom and in my search I've seen so many fancy pillows that would be perfect, but the price tags are just out of this world!

Even after deciding to make my own pillows, going to the fabric store to purchase the pillow form is frustrating because the price of the form can be close to the price of the original pillow in the store!

So today I'm going to show you what I've decided to do instead of breaking the bank with silly pillows!

I'm going to show you a really easy and quick way to save money AND still get the designer pillow you are looking for!

In doing so, you can get any size or shape pillow you want and still be able to wash your fancy pillow when
pillow + reality = washing machine.

I also timed myself to give you a great idea how quick and simple this project is...

What you need:
really cheap muslin or plain cotton fabric
(how much depends on the size of your pillow)
poly fill
needle and thread
measuring tape
pins
sewing machine

Decide on the size and shape of your pillow.
I wanted mine to be round and fairly small so I used one of my large dinner plates to use as a pattern.

Now, trace your pattern onto the fabric...
double up your fabric before you cut!
(you will need a front and a back)

Here is my traced pattern...
it ended up being a circle of 11.5 inches in diameter.

Now cut out your shape...
(you've used approximately 2 min. and 20 seconds from the beginning up to this point.)

Pin around the cut edges so your fabric doesn't budge.

Sew around the outside leaving a 1/4 inch seam.
Leave about 3 inches open so you have room to turn and stuff your pillow.
(you've used approximately 3 min. and 20 seconds to pin, sew, and remove pins)

Now turn your pillow right side out using that 3 inch opening.

And fill to your desired fullness...
(you've used approximately 2 min. and 30 seconds to turn and fill)

Now comes the most time consuming part...no worries, it only takes about 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

Don't try to be perfect...no one is going to see this part!
Mine wasn't perfect and I'm getting ready to show it to you so you can see for yourself.

There you have it!!!
You CAN DO IT!
You can make your own pillow form!

From the beginning to the end it only took approximately 12 minutes.
(the timing will be slightly different depending on how big or small your pillow form is.)

Now your going to have to come back and see what kind of pillow case I make to cover my form!
Cross your fingers that it will turn out as cute as it looks in my head!
