Handmade Christmas #1

The gift I planned for my sister’s families didn’t work out due to time constraints so I came up with something new…

I purchased some glass cookware at a very reasonable price and ran through Michael’s with my weekly coupon and grabbed me some of this…It’s a little pricey so don’t forget your coupon!
Then a special someone gave me a leftover roll of contact paper and I went to work.

Now if only I was in possession of a little friendly tool (aka: silhouette) I would’ve been in business, but instead I rocked the x-acto knife.

I wanted to etch the glass on the bottom of the pan so I (okay…in actuality: Mr. Wilson) printed out last names in mirrored form. I covered the bottom of each pan with contact paper, then taped the name, centered, on top of that…like so. Make sure it is going to look exactly how you want from the normal perspective.Then I cut away…adding a little freehand cuteness to spice it up a bit.
  Then I read the back of my Armour Etch and followed directions…well, kind of. I left the cream on much longer than directed because I just wasn’t sure how well it would work on the glass I had. (sometimes, the cheaper glass doesn’t work as well as the pyrex goodness) They ended up working great! I made one for myself first as the test run…I’m not sure if it was just because mine was an older-used with lots of love-kind of dish, but mine turned out a little blotchy. The rest were perfect. I added 2 freezer paper stencil monogrammed dish towels with the gift and then wrapped and gave. I also made one for Andrew’s school teacher and filled hers with chocolate instead of towels…she seemed to love the alteration.
It was so easy and fun to do – I’m pretty sure this might become the standard Wilson teacher gift.  Go try it – then your dishes will always know were home is.   :)
