All Andrew wanted for Christmas was a new fireman. His old one was the victim of an attack and had one foot and one hand ripped off…I told Andrew it happened while his fireman was saving a baby from a burning building, but Andrew knew the truth…Nana’s little Chewy views small toys and figurines as lunch. That’s the truth.
If you had asked Andrew what else he wanted Santa to bring him he would have replied with…
”I don’t want anything else. I have lots of other toys.”
No joke. That’s what he said every time!
This should paint a picture of how important it was for me to find a replacement fireman! Well, have you tried to buy JUST a fireman figurine? Don’t go try. It was the most difficult and definitely most stressful part of our Christmas preparations! You can’t JUST purchase a fireman.
I spent many short trips searching, but with no luck. One night I planned to take my little Evan with me for an outing to find a fireman…an outing that turned into hours of walking through every single store in town only to be unsuccessful! I went to more than 10 stores that night and came home with a fighter pilot GI Joe because that was the closest thing I could find.
My GI Joe man was pretty generic, and being a girl, I figured it would work, but Andrew is a very observant and intelligent fellow so we came to the conclusion that making due with a fighter pilot just wouldn’t work.
Then it was Doug’s turn to try and make Andrew’s Christmas dreams come true.
Doug entered his workshop with the new GI Joe and the old one footed/one handed fireman and came out with a brand new fireman! How did he make Andrew’s dreams come true? He spent about an hour or more cutting off the head of the old fireman, then just cutting off the hat of the old fireman, carving a hole out of the hat to make it fit on the fighter pilot…he glued it on and voila! Andrew’s new replacement fireman! It ended up being a hit!
